I did a little shopping over the last couple of weeks and finally had the chance to film a video the other day.  While everything that I have pictured here is mainly from Sephora, I did pick up some Drug Store items as well.

I will be doing impression videos or posts on the items as I use them more, so stay tuned for those coming soon.

Have you gotten any of these goodies and if so, which did you get and what do you like or dislike about them? :)

This Haul was done before my roll out of my Make out 2013.  I also have another small haul as well which all items were purchased prior to my roll out. :)

Brown eyes (light to medium brown)
I decided I was going to do a bold look for Valentine's Day as well... since I already did a wearable one (You can watch here).  I also wanted to take out my Sedona Lace 168 palette and check out the colors... as well as my new Urban Decay Theodora Palette and try out a few colors.  I'm pretty happy with how the look came out... it was bold but still super wearable.

This look truly was inspired by my husband.  I missed him that day (as I do every day that he works) and threw on his Green T-shirt so I could get the essence of his cologne and his scent.  I was inspired thereafter to do a look that was inspired because of the shirt I was wearing and thought it would be a great opportunity to do another St. Patty's Day look.

When I got started on the look, I thought to myself... "hey, another look I can use for my Green, Hazel & Brown eyes series" and decided I would choose colors that would compliment those eye colors.  I was pretty happy with how the eye look came out.  As you can see in one of the photos - I actually edited my eyes to look green so you could see the full affect.  My eyes naturally give off a hazel look to them depending on the lighting and what I'm wearing that day - so the image below actually shows how my eyes lighten and brighten depending on those factors.  The image above shows what my eyes normally are in the dark.  I waiting for the light to vary after doing the look so I could take the images so that they would affect my natural eye color for the right variations.

I got my order from Zoya a few days ago... so the day I received it, I had to use it.  I pulled out a few of my favorite pastels and got to painting my nails. :D  The goal for this look was to do a kind of Easter Inspired nail look.  I didn't really feel yellows that day, so I thought the soft nude look of Godiva from Zoya would be a great accent nail, especially since it is textured.

From my thumb to my pinky:  Zoya's Julie (thumb), A combination of Wet n Wild's Candy-licious & Avon's Cotton Candy (pointer finger), Sally Hansen's Mint Sorbet (middle finger), Zoya's Pixie Dust Godiva (ring finger) and Revlon's Lily (pinky).

Top Coat: Sally Hansen Super Shine Top Coat with Sally Hansen Dry Kwik.

So far... I am loving the colors I got from Zoya, I will touch base on that a little more in the future... but the Textured Pixie Dust polishes are super duper awesome.  I know this picture is not the best... I took it with my cell phone - but I figured I would share my Nails for the Week anyway.

Have a Sparkling & Glitterful Week!

I purchased the Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette about 2 months ago.  I will be honest in saying that it truly was kind of a whim... a friend of mine had said she loved hers and I was still hesitant with I bought it... after the first use, I already knew this was a palette I would love.  (Pardon the photo as I did not intend on doing a review on this at first... and quickly used it, but after a couple of days... I thought to myself, hey - you should review it, I think others would be on the fence about it too.  And, therefore, the palette had been used before I had the opportunity to actually take pretty blog photos.)

I talk about the palette and what my thoughts are in my video (which I have embedded below, if not here is the link: http://youtu.be/-8T1LE5yHQU)  So I will run down a few touch points here.  First, let me start by saying that the colors included are super pigmented, very blendable and feel like silk to the touch.  I love that I can use this palette for my 5 minute makeup looks (which you will see uploaded soon) and that I can easily do a wash of color all over my lid to create a "put together" look that looks like it took me 20 minutes or more.

Considering the palette retails for $27.00 at Urbandecay.com, Sephora and Ulta - at first thought, I was like... "whoa, that's a pretty hefty cost for 6 shadows".  But, I used it and love it.  Each shadow is easily used for an every day look or you can create a beautiful smokey eye with it as well.

So far... my favorite colors from the palette are, well - all of them. lol But, if I had to choose just a few... my favs would be Foxy (my favorite highlight color, it blends into my skin and looks skin tone so I don't have to worry about having a browbone color that looks like a marshmellow sitting on my brow), Walk of Shame (I am really loving this color as an all over lid color), Naked 2 (turning out to be my favorite transition shade) and Faint, which has proven to be my favorite all over lid or in the crease shade for my every day looks.  Honestly, I don't think you could go wrong with this palette.  I absolutely love it.  Check out my video review and thanks so much for joining me.  If you own the Naked Basics Palette, tell me... what do you like or don't like about it.
FTC:  This product that I reviewed was purchased by me with my own money.  My review is unbiased and 100% honest.  I am in no way affiliated with Urban Decay.

Since Spring is here... you will probably see a ton of nude and pastel sets from me in the coming months... for one... Nude colors are super duper flattering on most people and I love pastels during Spring.  This style set was inspired by Roses... I wanted this look to be something that can be looked at as casual, but that could easily be taken from a lunch date to the office by just putting on a blazer.   I chose each piece so that they would compliment one another... with like colors and different tones of neutrals for a soft ethereal look.  The accessories bring out the little turquoise in the accessories... just enough to tie the whole look together.  And, of course - I love Wedges and these are totally to die for.  I love pairing nudes and pastels with rose golds, gold and silver... really - this is one of those times where you could easily pair all 3 types of medals together without it clashing tremendously and being an eye sore.    Ensembles like this are daring but still have a soft "sweetheart" edge to them.  Anyone caught in something similar to this will definitely turn heads while walking, but still giving off a very lady like presentation.  I love it!

I heard this beautiful song "I Hope You Dance" by Lee Ann Womack years ago... when it was played during one of my favorite T.V. shows during that time, Any Day Now.  Mary Elizabeth's Daughter was nominated as Homecoming Princess and it played during that portion of the show.  I fell in love with the words instantly and it has been a song that has been very dear to my heart.  Years later, for my twins 1 year Lu'au (1 year old celebration) I included that song in their slideshow.  If you know the story behind my pregnancy and birth of the twins... you'll understand why I'm actually tearing up right now as I'm typing this.   As a mother, these words hold true to what I wish for my children... I pray that they dance!

If you know anything about me... it's that I do everything I can in my power to cease every moment.  Love Unconditionally, no regrets... and most importantly - take the time to dance in the rain.  People in our lives come and go... but it is how we choose to live our life and our time on this Earth that makes all the difference.  When you are watching/listening to the Music Monday video choice for this week... please keep those words in your heart.

xoxo

"I hope you never lose your sense of wonder
You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger
May you never take one single breath for granted
God forbid love ever leave you empty handed
I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens
Promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance

I hope you dance"

I wanted to do a look that would be St. Patty's Day inspired since it is just around the bend.  I don't use green eye shadow often and I thought this would be the opportune time for me to showcase a look that would be great for Green or Brown eyes.  The goal for this look was to keep it very wearable and make it easy to recreate.   Using a few new palettes that I won in a giveaway - I kind of started this look on a whim and had nothing planned out originally... but as I started applying the first few colors, I figured out how I wanted this look to go.

My goal was to really showcase the green, not really as a bright pop of color, but something that was wearable and something that would really make brown and green eyes sparkle.  Because... Sparkle is NEVER Optional!

I'm not sure if you are anything like me... but sometimes, when life throws me a curve ball... I wish I could just bake a cupcake, add sprinkles and all would be perfect again.   Lol - as if life were that easy... take a little Glitter and Sprinkle it over everything... Sparkles makes everything better. <3

This past week seemed to drag a little, but not nearly as much as I had originally thought that it would.  Yes... it did have its days where I wished I could reach into the clock and turn the dials forward myself - but it was still a pretty okay week for the most part.   I shot a Wedding this week and the couple was just the sweetest.  We got a full week of sunshine... so that was awesome because the kids and I could go about our time and get much needed errands accomplished, and I even had the opportunity to get a few videos up this week on my YouTube channel, I know - don't remind me... I've been really bad at it.   Needless to say, even with it's challenges... a few smiles here and there and we truly were able to Sprinkle a little Glitter on Everything.  The week has now ended, it's actually 12:53pm (Monday), and now we begin all over again.  :)

I'm behind on my weekly posts... my looks of the week, my photo recap of the week and of course, my foodie recap - so  bare with me as I get caught up in the next few days.  But, with out further adieu... here are my Sunday letters!

Dear Sun... thank you for coming out this week and giving us the opportunity to feel your warmth.  I do love the rain, but this sick we have all had in our house is definitely "a'ole maika'i" (not good - in hawaiian).  The sunshine really helps to warm our soul and we surely need the vitamin D.  Feel free to come by often... but promise not to scorch our skin. :D

Dear Sick... Yes, you!  You need to get to steppin and be on your way.  Ugh... We hate that you are still lingering in our house and it's been a month.  We have sanitized everything and cleaned everything and we are just tired of you.  You have worn our your welcome... (not that you were ever invited) and we would like you to check out NOW.  Please do not come back!

To My Hubby and Sons...  I am looking forward to Spring break... count down... 5 days as it starts on Friday.  Yay Us!  While daddy will not be able to spend the entire time with us, we are so lucky to have him for a few extra days during the week.  Let's make the most of it and have a ton of fun.  If the weather holds up well... I see all kinds of fun in our future.  Hint: Whales are beautiful this time of year. :D

Dear Sleep... Hello, I would love to be reacquainted with you once again.  Please feel free to stop on by for a visit.  Bring the Sandman with you so he can sprinkle some of his sleeping dust in my eyes and I can catch up on some zzzzz.

To all of my Bloggy Blog Followers, YouTube Subbies and Social Networking friends...   You guys play such an important role in what I do here on my Blog and YouTube channel each day.  You inspire me to continue to do what I love and that is sharing my life with you.  While there are meanies in the world (or as some call them... haters) I am truly lucky to have such a great bunch of supporters.  You guys are awesome and I am thankful to chat with you, exchange ideas, learn from all of you and become friends.

Wishing all of you reading this a wonderful week... Happy Monday!

Ah... the NYX Nude on Nude Palette.  I'm sure you have heard many things about this palette after it's very popular release last year.  This palette was said by many to be a dupe for the Urban Decay Naked 1 and 2 palettes.

I was pretty excited and intrigued when I was able to get my hands on one of them early last year.   At first impression... this palette is actually a great palette for anyone, whether beginner or experienced.  It sports 20 neutral type shades and 10 lip colors that were formulated to go with a variety of skin tones.  This palette is some what of a one stop shop for most and I have been enjoying the ease of use for travel.  My palette has gone on many vacations with me.

This palette (though sold out on NYX's website at this time) retails for $25.00.  You may be able to find it on sale or elsewhere from time to time.  Compared to some of their smaller palettes, it does cost a little more.  Each shadow is a pretty awesome size.  There is a lot of color included.  Pigmentation in my opinion is also really great.  Some of the colors may have fall out - but that really doesn't steer me away from the product and I still think it is well worth trying it out if you are into neutrals or looking for an All-in-One type of palette.  Each color is very blendable and soft like most of NYX eyeshadows so it made for easy application and blending.
Now - I'm sure you are wondering if there really is any comparison between the NYX palette and the Naked Palettes from UD.  Honestly, there are so many comparison videos and blog posts that are out there, I am not going to get into too much detail.  I also only own the Naked 1 Palette so I can't compare to N2.  but, I can say this... the colors are very similar in tone.  The biggest different between them besides the color difference is that the Naked Palette (as with most / all of Urban Decay Palettes/shadows) is very buttery and creamy.  If you have tried this palette, you will know what I am talking about.  The pigmentation of the Naked palette is also by far brighter, bolder and stronger in pigment than that of the Nude on Nude.  The Nude on Nude palette has a soft/silky texture and I like that it is pigmented.  I also love that you have a good range of matte, satin and shimmer type shades.  With 20 shades, you truly have a lot to choose from.
The lipstick/lip colors are very moisturizing - but they are more like glosses than lipsticks.  They are kind of sheer as well which makes it difficult to show up on my lips sometimes.  I do love the range of colors but it really is more for just an every day or quick lip look.  The pigmentation is not necessarily buildable on my lips as I can apply several coats but not get much more of a color payoff then I had to begin with.  It is not very sticky, which I love, and I think that all in all - it's still a pretty okay addition to this palette.  If I had to choose - I could do without the lip colors.  They are not necessarily a bad thing, I just think that they are not something I can utilize often, especially since I'm more of a lipstick gal.

The swatches above show each color in the lip collection.  The colors go from top to bottom - left to right.   In the palette they are Left to Right in comparison to my swatches.
Eye Shadow Swatches... from Left to Right, Top to bottom.
Above: First Five colors on the top row of palette
Above: First Five colors on the bottom row of palette
Above: Second Set of Five colors on top row of palette.
Above: 2nd Set of Five colors on bottom row of palette.
The Eyeshadow shades were all swatched on my bare arm, no primer or base.  I tried to take them in natural lighting, though there was a funny cast in one of them and the camera would not let me take the photo without flash on some of them.  As you can see from the swatches... the eye shadows are pigmented.  A few of the lighter shades had some difficulty showing up on my skin, but it is those colors I like to use as a natural looking high light on my brow bone.
Here are some swatches I took of my Naked 1 Palette a year or so ago.  As you can see, while they do differ in texture and hue... you can easily recreate a look done with the Naked 1 with the NYX Nude on Nude Palette.  My Swatches of my Naked1 palette are actually done over primer/base, so it does show up much more... though, honestly - the NYX Palette would definitely show up much more
vibrantly if also done over a base or primer.  The colors are so similar... it would be difficult to tell if you used one or the other.  I love that the NYX palette offers 20 different colors as well as lippies in comparison to the Naked Palettes.  The looks you can get are absolutely endless with the Nude on Nude and it really is a great palette to use while traveling.  My palette has been from Hawaii to Washington DC and many states in between.   It travels well, it's compact enough to travel with and it really is an All-in-One and go-to type palette.

As I mentioned previously in this post - Urban Decay's Naked Palettes do have a little bit of a different texture than that of the Nude on Nude.  The downside to that... you may need to pack your color on a little more, as UD's Palettes have a metallic buttery finish that will give instant payoff with little work.  The Nude on Nude palette however... still has a buttery feel, very smooth and easily blended... but you may need to pack your colors on so that you eliminate that chalky fall out you may get with some shadows.  At the end of the day though... if I had to choose either or, knowing what each of them do... I would not hesitate to choose the NYX palette.  Because it doesn't have that extra soft metallic finish, it doesn't easily break or chip off in the pan as Urban Decay shadows can do... which means, traveling can be a little tricky... I always put my UD palette in a zip lock bag just in case.  Of course, the price different is huge as well...  the NYX palette offers just a bit more with color selection as well as lippies... and because of the type of shadows, it has traveled well.  I do have a few cons... but nonetheless, it won't deter me from buying this product again should I ever need to replace it.  Surely a must have in any kit or collection - especially if you love neutrals. :)
FTC Disclaimer:  The NYX Nude on Nude Palette was sent to me as a Gift from NYX cosmetics.  I am in no way affiliated with NYX or have been paid to provide this review and/or comparison.  The Urban Decay Naked Palette that was also discussed was purchased by me with my own money.  My opinions and thoughts are my own and 100% honest and unbiased.  Images are taken by me as well as a few of the NYX Nude on Nude palette were used from the NYX site.  I only claim copyright on the images I took and do not for the others.  Copyright infringement not intended, the images that are not mine, that are used are for informational purposes only.

Over the last month, my family has not been feeling very well.  We've been battling all types of sickness from cold, cough and congestion to flu like symptoms, ear infections and wheezing and asthma.   Just like with any time of the year, no matter how overcautious we are... the sick bug can strike us when we are not expecting it and always when we think that we have safe guarded our homes and everything we own.  Unfortunately, many people that we come into contact with daily can be carriers of such germs or they may have the bug germ but not even know it.

I have been trying my best to stay away from germs for what seems to be all my life.  As a kid - I suffered from chronic asthma and bronchitis, so my parents taught me at a young age the importance of protecting against bacteria.   But, no matter how much you try and no matter how well you protect against germs, they can always sneak their way in.  Now that I have 3 children of my own... I do my best to safeguard against all of the nasty bugs that a child can get.  Here are a few tips I can provide in hopes that it may help you...

1.)  Be Prepared.  Parent's with young children think that their children do not understand about germs and keeping clean.  Teach your child that germies can be everywhere and on everything.  My children (by habit) wash their hands after using the bathroom (always) and after we go out in public or touch anything for that matter.  It's a good habit to teach your child that they must always wash their hands so that they do not pass germs or do not catch them.

2.)  Make sure that as the Flu & Cold Season comes around, that you are prepared with needed necessities just in case.  Of course, we all wish that we don't even catch the bug to begin with... but being ill prepared, especially during this time of the day - is definitely not a good idea.  Just before the season comes around, I already start checking my local stores like Walmart, Walgreens and CVS for deals on Pain Relievers, Cough Medicines, Decongestants, etc.  A favorite in my house is the Hylands Cold & Cough.  I purchase it in both  the Day Formula and Night.  I started using this brand when the twins were 2 years old, because it was the only brand available over-the-counter for children below the ages of 4 (or 6 for other medicines).
My children approve of the taste and it has a 100% all natural formula.  I also love that it works without making the kiddos sleepy and doesn't have any stimulant side effects like other medicines have been known to have.  It contains no Aspirin, Acetaminophen, Ibuprofen, Naproxen, Pseudoephedrine or Dextromethorphan which is also a huge plus.
I also love to stock up on Tylenol Melt aways... It's a medicine that the kids prefer in taste and it is fast acting.  It brings the boys' fevers down fairly quickly, which is a huge deal for us.  You can also get the Generic Store brand if you want.  I like buying these medicines a little before the cold/flu season starts because you will normally find your favorite brands in stock and normally at a reasonable price.  When the Cold/Flu season starts, it can often be out of stock, on back order or the cost may be inflated dramatically.  The other day - I had gone to the store to find that the boy's Hylands Medicine was $12.99 instead of it's normal $6.99 because we are in the middle of the Winter months when the cold and flu are at its peak.

3.)  Pack a Mommy's Sick Kit... Which will definitely come in handy.  It is great for on the go and you can just grab it while you are heading out of the house while the children are not well.  It is also great that you can easily transport your items from room to room without stuffing your hands full of stuff.  Here's some of the things you will see in my Mommy Sick Kit:
  • Thermometer (We have an Exergen Temporal Infrared Scanner.  It allows me to take the children's temperature without any harm to them.  I also suggest an ear thermometer, those work awesome as well.)
  • Back up Thermometer... I have one of the old school thermometers that go under the tongue, it's not ideal for children that are young, they hate it, but it works in case the other should not.
  • Medicines... put your medicines that you purchased in your little Mommy Sick Kit.  That way you are not running all over trying to get the medicine.
  • Baby Vapor Rub (and/or adult).  This has been an absolute lifesaver in our family.
  • Nasal aspirator - Children have a hard time to blow their nose... and after a while, you surely don't want to keep wiping your kiddos nose with tissue, it can get raw and irritated.
  • Hand Sanitizer - This is so important.  You are constantly taking care of yourself and your child and in many cases both of you are not feeling well.  This will help in keeping the germs from being transferred from person to person as you are caring for your household while they are not feeling well.
  • A Notebook or Notepad with a pen/pencil - This will really be a Godsend when you are busy taking care of your household and are administering different medications, treatments, etc.  I have a great memory... but when I'm also sick, I can't remember if I ate that day.  This will allow you to make notes of the dates, times and what you gave your child.  Also - it will allow you to make notes of how high their fever may have been or if they may have had an ache in their tummy or threw up.  This is a great tool to have if you have to work while daddy stays home and then you need to pick up the shift later.  It is also a great thing to have for adults who are not well.  Keep it handy in your Mommy Sick Kit and you will always have something to write important sick info down.
  • Inhaler - this is for those who have been prescribed it.  We have asthma in our house, my self and my husband have had asthma all of our lives.  My eldest, while has not yet been diagnosed with asthma, does have mild wheezing when he is sick, so the doctor has prescribed Albuterol in an inhaler form for him too.  Having them in one place will help in case of an emergency or if needed.
There are a few items that should be kept in an area where you can easily get to them and that have been very important in our Cold/Flu battling:
  • Nebulizer - If you have an asthmatic in the house, you know what this is.  Make sure to have this in an accessible area along with refills with the proper medicine available.
  • Humidifier and/or Steam Vapor - these are awesome, especially when you have children or your household has children with congestion, cough or having a lot of mucus. Definitely a great investment to have.
  • Ice packs - I put them in our freezer and then have zip lock bags and wash cloths on hand to wrap around the ice pack so that it is not extremely cold.  But in some of the worst cases, a cool compress or ice pack (that is wrapped well) will help to bring down a high temperature.

4.)  Preventing the passing of the germ in your house is key to getting it out of your house completely.  There are a few things that I do when we are sick to sterilize and sanitize our house:
  • Sterilize or Sanitize everything.  I have twins and since the day they were born, they shared everything... including their germs.  Because of this - it can be hard to keep germies at bay... but I do so by spraying everything down with Lysol or Anti-Bacterial Spray or I wash all of their items in VERY HOT water... dishes, cups, etc.  When they are sick I also do not use their normal sippy cups.  They will get a cup with a straw that can be disposed of.  If all else - pick up paper goods while sick.  It will help you recover and not be so over worked, but you can also throw them out after each use without burning your hands while cleaning.
  • Throw out your cleaning supplies when you are done with the sick.  I'm talking about your cleaning sponge or rags.  If you used it to clean anything while the house was sick, throw it out.  Or use disposable ones to clean so it is easy to get rid of.
  • Get rid of your tooth brushes.  I know you are supposed to get rid of your tooth brushes every 3 months, but regardless if it was brand new - just trash it.  It harbors so much germs and bacteria and when you are sick, it always lingers.
  • Scrub a dub dub the house... Lysol anti-bacterial sprays are a great friend this time of year, and always for that matter.  My husband and I go around and clean and sanitize all bedding, pillows, pillow cases, towels, toys and so much more.  Get the germs out of your house and keep the cold and flu from coming back because of a lingering germ.  Wiping everything down... even the refrigerator door handle will ensure that your house is sanitized and clean.   Toys, light switches, door handles... you name it, spray everything and wipe everything down.
  • Let the Sunshine in:  In Hawaii, we have sun out pretty much all day long... but we take it for granted often.  After the kids or the house for that matter is sick, we make it a point to open up everything... windows, doors, etc. and let in the sunshine, the fresh air and more to help get all the germs out of the house.  It is a great way to give your house a fresh smell, but also - it will help to get the germs out and the fresh air in.
  • If you have sun out - get out doors.  Vitamin D is a huge part of what our body thrives on.  If you have some sun, get outdoors and soak it up.  I wouldn't suggest going out if it is windy... but if you have some sun, run out and enjoy it.  Sun heals the soul and it will definitely help give you some of the much needed vitamins your body will need while you are not feeling well.

At the end of the day - do what works and what you are comfortable with.  Remember to talk to your doctor and discuss these things prior to Cold/Flu season so you have an idea as to what you can and cannot do.  I am not a Physician, just a mom with Mommy experience.  I am not a Professional in this field and I'm only giving you advice that I have learned from my experiences as a mommy.  Please consult with your doctor prior to doing anything that includes medicine or treatment.   Wishing you all well this Cold/Flu season and hoping you all stay safe and healthy.
Disclaimer:  I am not a medical professional... anything stated in this post is due to my own experience as a mother.  I am not liable and suggest that you consult with your medical doctor first before starting any regimen or treatment.

I guess you could say today has been a bit of an Adele day.  This woman truly inspires me... her long road traveled and all the obstacles remind me of me in so many ways.  In life... we kind of live day by day doing the same old thing and people get used to that... they assume that that is all we have in us.  Not this woman... I have so much more for this World... I plan on leaving one hell of a legacy.  So - don't forget about me and certainly don't underestimate the things that I will do.

I always get asked to share my recipes that I make for dinner and I normally post them frequently, but have been so busy this past month, I have kind of flaked in that department.  So, here I am playing catch up. :)  Tonight's dinner was something I had been craving for a while now.  I took inspiration from one of my favorite Hole in the Wall eateries called: Honokowai Okazuya.  They make a similar dish there... though, I must admit - I will not be eating there for a while... because mine tasted SOOOOOO.... much better! lol  When I cook, I normally eye ball or just guesstimate everything I put in it... so I am going to give you the basic ingredients needed and how to put it together... but the amounts will be something you may have to try out and test drive yourself.  I apologize, I should really start measuring my ingredients, but I always cook and create on a whim.

Ingredients:
  • Ono or any white fish like Halibut or Mahi Mahi (Ono - Wahoo, Mahi Mahi - Dorado, or even Red Snapper)
  • Butter - about 2 blocks
  • White Wine, I like to use Chardonnay
  • Sundried tomatoes - I like to get the one that is dried in sun and already has italian herbs in the oil
  • white cap mushrooms
  • capers
  • zucchini
  • white rice or your choice of starch
  • Garlic Salt, Salt and Pepper (to taste)
  • 1 whole lemon

How to:
  1. Get your starch cooking - if you are making white rice, get it cooking.  If you are making pasta, you can start getting your water ready to boil.
  2. Start by pouring your wine into a sauteed pan (make sure it is deep enough).  Cook on Medium heat until it reduces, usually till there is half the amount of liquid as when you started.
  3. While the win is reducing - Season your fish then start pan frying your White Fish.  You can add some EVOO and use this as your lubricant to cook the fish.  Do not mess with it or it will flake and break apart - your fish will let you know when it is ready to be flipped.
  4. Add cold butter to your wine a little at a time.  I normally cut in 1/4 of a cup sizes and slowly add in the butter... whisking/stirring it in so that it thickens.
  5. Add your capers and sundried tomatoes and then season your sauce with garlic salt or salt and pepper (to taste).
  6. In a separate pan (a small one is okay) start heating up a little butter or some EVOO (for your stir fry veggies).  Cut up your vegetables julian style or how ever you would like.  Add the cut veggies (mushrooms/zucchini) to the pan and stir fry for just a few minutes until tender.  Remove from stove.
  7. As your sauce starts to thicken, cut your lemon in half and squeeze the juice into your sauce.  You can also decide to hold off on the lemon and squeeze it over your plated dish.
  8. You can start plating by first adding your starch and then the stir fry veggies.  Add your fish and then pour the sauce over your fish and some onto your starch if you would like.

Dinner is Served.  You can go ahead and pair this dish with an awesome glass of white wine or what ever dessert you would like.  This dish is super easy to make and something like this would be sold for over $20 in a restaurant here in Hawaii.  Now you can make it all yourself.  I love creating new recipes and this recipe is very similar to my pasta shrimp scampi one, so you can easily take this sauce as it is versatile and use it in combination with other seafood dishes.  It taste great with chicken too.

Happy Eating and Enjoy!
Disclaimer:  This recipe is one I have created and tried on my own many times.  You are welcome to omit the alcohol from the recipe if you would like.  Also - my little verbiage about having a glass of white wine with dinner of course is a suggestion for adults of legal drinking age.  Please drink responsibly.  If you do use this recipe or share on your site/blog, social media, please credit this recipe and image back to me.  Thank you! :) xo Honey

Spring is almost here... I can already feel the change in the weather and because of this - I'm already planning recipes for fun Spring time dinners and meals.  I found this awesome recipe on one of my favorite sites: Right at Home (click for link) And I could not wait to post it.  So many of my friends are experiencing heavy winter months with lots of snow, which I do not get here in Hawaii... so I wanted to share a recipe that would definitely make them look forward to the beautiful green trees, flowers and the sounds of song birds.  This recipe is fun, festive and definitely bright.  It is perfect for any time of year - but most definitely a great fresh meal for Spring and Summer Months.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I do sharing it with you.  Scroll below and see what Right at Home has in store for you - you will definitely love the simplicity of this recipe and how fast and quick it is to put such a bright and beautiful display together.  And - if you're feeling the Winter Blues... try and prepare this now and see if you can add a little Spring Sunshine to your dining room table. :)  Recipe & Ingredients posted below.

A little note from Honey's Kitchen... Fresh ingredients can be hard to come by this time of year, especially for vegetables like tomatoes.  If you can't find Fresh ingredients, definitely substitute for canned or frozen.  By adding your favorite spices, you can surely make it taste fresh and delicious.

  • Prep time: 10 minutes
  • Cook time: 5 minutes
  • Serves: 4

Ingredients
Strawberry-Tomato Salsa
  • ¾ cup strawberries, cut into small dice
  • ½ tomato, cut into small dice
  • 2 tablespoons finely diced red onion
  • ¼ Serrano chile, minced, optional
  • 1 tablespoon cilantro, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon lime juice
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
Fish Tacos
  • 4 tilapia filets, approximately ¼ pound each
  • 1 teaspoon of your favorite taco seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 8 6-8-inch flour or corn tortillas, heated according to the package directions
  • 1 avocado, sliced
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce or green cabbage
  • 1 lime, cut into small wedges

Directions
1.) Prepare the salsa by mixing together the first seven ingredients in a medium bowl. Set aside.
2.) Dry the filets with a paper towel. Sprinkle with taco seasoning and set onto a plate. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium high heat. Pour in olive oil. When the oil is hot, gently add the fish to the pan, cooking for approximately 5 minutes and turning once.
3.) Remove fish from the pan and break each filet into two pieces. Serve in a tortilla topped with strawberry salsa, avocado slices, and shredded lettuce or cabbage with a lime wedge alongside.

chef’s notes You could also make the salsa with mango or peaches. Simply substitute ¾ cup of either chopped fruit for the strawberries.

After my first coat, I already started to notice that my lashes were much longer than they had been before I started.  If you have been following me a while, you know I have very very short lashes... so to see them look visibly longer, I was pretty impressed.

I applied the second coat and it gave me a little "spider lash" action - which I did not like.
Let me start off by saying... "Ignore my crazy hair please. lol"

I picked up this mascara about a week or so ago and today (3/5/13) is my first day trying it out.  Let me just start by saying I was a little off put by the wand when I removed it from the tube.  It was super skinny and weird, I honestly didn't know what to do with it.  It was not only really skinny but very flexible which really freaked me out. lol

I attempted to apply the mascara anyway - in hopes that after trying to apply it - I would figure it out and it would be easy as pie after using it.  Hmmm... it was not very easy (but mind you, this was my first attempt, I plan to keep trying till I figure it out).  It seemed at first like I was completely clumping my lashes - though that is not what I was seeing... it was not really clumping - but more like making it really dark.  The formula of the mascara was a lot thicker than I had assumed.
So - I took out a clean spooly and kind of brushed through the lashes to try and separate my lashes a little.  It did work to a certain extent.  After using this for the first time, I have kind of figured out that maybe I should try my first coat with a volumizing mascara and then use the Telescopic mascara to create a longer look.  For the most part, this only being my first time... I truly do like the length it has given me... but using the wand and the texture of the formula is a little bit weird to use at first.  I will keep using this mascara this week and then mix it with other mascaras to get a better feel for them.  I'll be sure to update a long the way.

The Details:  This mascara was $7.99 at Walmart.  It is the basic Blackest Black formula and is not waterproof.  I curled my lashes before applying the mascara and it actually held my curl pretty well... I was definitely amazed with it holding the curl and with the length it provided.  But - as I mentioned previously, I think it will take a little practice to ensure I don't end up with spider lashes.  The packaging states that you will get "Intense Looking Length" and "60% Longer Lashes"... it did not say: "Up to 60% longer lashes" - just "60% longer lashes" which was what intrigued me a lot about this mascara.  It's claim was that it would do so... so I figured I would test that theory.
This is a photo of me without mascara, or makeup for that matter.  It's not the best close up as I forgot to take before photos... but you can surely get the idea.
I will keep you posted over the coming weeks as I use this mascara and will let you know my thoughts.  Have you used this mascara? Comment below and let me know what you thought of it.  Did it work for you?

I have a few other mascaras that I have tried and actually love... but hadn't  had the time to do a Mascara Chronicles on them, so stay tuned, because I'll be writing about all of them next. :)
Disclaimer: Images in this post were all taken with my cell phone camera - so I apologize if it is not the best of quality.  I did purchase this product with my own money and am not affiliated with the company.

I mentioned this before in another set... but I love Spring.  Spring is that one time of year where I can feel flirty... and I can pull out the girlie dresses and the cute floppy hats without looking out of place.  Just like summer, you can use pastels without looking like a walking Easter Basket... I just love it.

I made this style set to showcase some of my favorite things that make me feel feminine during this time of the year.  I love floral print dresses on me... especially like the one I chose - it's very girlie and definitely a great Spring/summer piece.  The floppy hat is perfect, especially here in Hawaii and I really wanted something that would give you that Beachy but classy feel.  :)

Hope you like this set I created.
xoxo

This certainly holds true to what is in my heart... no more drama - just Be Happy!

I'm sure if you follow me on Instagram or are my friend on Facebook, you have seen me wearing this necklace several times in the last month or so.  There are few pieces that I own that are not real gold or silver that I can wear often, because  my skin is so sensitive.  This particular piece has certainly stole my heart.  It's a simple piece, but it's timeless and filled with so much meaning.

As you watch my video review (below) I talk about how Origami Owl was founded... by a young girl just 14 years old.  And, now - a few years later, it has turned into a customizable piece of art.  Each locket is unique in that it is designed and customized by you (and your Origami Owl Independent Designer).  You select the charms you want to add, the plates, the chain, the locket, the dangles... you name it, the options are endless.  I love that my locket is a depiction of who I am and what is most important to me... My Family - my husband and my children and God.  The rest of the things I have in my locket or hanging from it are special things I like to do... Photography, Makeup, My favorite color purple, my favorite sweet treats and my favorite flowers.

What are they made of?
Silver lockets are made of Stainless Steel they will not rust or tarnish. Gold and RoseGold are also Stainless Steel, but are plated in 18K gold. Silver chains are plates in 925 Sterling Silver.

Each locket ranges in price depending on your selection of items.  It is definitely an investment, like any type of jewelry piece that you expect to survive and still be timeless through the years... but this is a piece that you will cherish for years to come.  My locket cost well over $100, but it's well worth the cost and definitely is a piece that holds dear to my heart.  This piece showcases all the things that make me, Me!

Origami Owl not only offers ways to customize your locket and make it your own, but they also offer pendants which you can also customize with other items.  I also love that they give you the opportunity to host a party and earn free products or if you want to have a way to make a little extra money - you can sign up and be an awesome Origami Owl Designer as well.
How much does it cost?
The entire locket cost truly depends on what it is you are interested in including in them.  Like I mentioned before, the options are endless... I love that I can switch my charms around and wear all of them one day or just a few another.  Here are their price ranges:

Lockets range from $20-$38
Charms :$5
Dangles: $6-$12
Plates $7-$9
Chains $8-$22

Life is a path of chocolates... sometimes sweet, sometimes bitter sweet... but always worth the journey. ~Honey
It still amazes me... no matter how many times i have experienced it... that life will change in a heartbeat - whether you are ready for it or not.  Sometimes, it's that one instant - that one moment in time, when something doesn't go your way or something quite significant happens and you realize... "Hey, I have to do something different!"  I guess you could say that last week I experienced a lot of those "ah ha" moments... where my eyes opened and my mind did a double take, realizing that the path in life that I am taking is not the right box of chocolates.

Dear Monday... Hi!  Welcome Back!  Why have you arrived so swiftly? I have only had a second to blink and here you are again.  Please take your time coming back again, I enjoy my weekends and I really am not so fond of you.

To My Dear Heart...  You never cease to fail me.  When I have that uneasy feeling inside, I know it's because my heart is not truly at ease.  I need to learn and remember to listen to you, my heart... you will never steer me wrong.

To My Children, My Hearts... This week, someone told me (in so many words) that they found it hard to believe that I don't need "Me" time or a break.  I took that offensively and just about screamed at the top of my lungs.  How is that hard to believe?  I spend 24 hours with all of you (with exception to Ka'eo - who goes to school for 6 out of those 24 hours).  While you all can be handful and I can be exhausted (mostly because of other people I deal with daily), I would never trade my time with my boys for "me" time ever... Maybe I'm weird, or just an unusual mom... maybe it's because I do have my me time... while still hanging out with all of you... or maybe it's because my entire existence exists because of you and your father, and without you - My life ceases to exist.  Funny thing is, I'm the only girl/woman in the house, but I still rather paint my toe nails while you sit down and play toys and we sing songs together... or film my videos with little voices in the background.  Why?  Because that one day... when I may all of a sudden decide that I may need to go out and get a pedicure or have my nails done or something else, and leave you with someone to watch you, if something should ever happen to you... I couldn't go on living any longer.  If something should happen to me... you may not ever know how much your mommy loved you so.  Yes, we all need time to ourselves from time to time, I'm sure... but I enjoy my time with all of you.

To My Wonderful Husband, the Love of my Life... this past week has put a lot of different things in perspective for me.  I hate that we spend so much time away from one another... that our work has us running around like headless chickens and our together time is always sacrificed for other things.  We need to make more time for one another... I see a Spa day in our future soon. :D I love you!  thank you for always believing in me and for supporting me endlessly.  Thank you for being my shoulder to cry on and most importantly, thank you for loving me!

To this stupid congestion, cold and cough...  Seriously, you need to get to steppin.  I'm so tired of being sick, of coughing and of my asthma being so ridiculous since you've been around.  I'm tired of feeling so worn down.  And, most importantly - I'm tired of seeing my family so miserable because you just won't get out of our house... all the cleaning, sterilizing and spraying antibacterial stuff is not working.  So I ask you nicely - get out of my house and away from my family. Thank you!

Dear Me... I don't need to remind you that you are a Phenomenal Woman... but I know that sometimes women just need to hear it.  This past week was a challenge, this week will be one as well.  So pace your self... take a deep breath and remember that you are AWESOME!  At the end of the day, you are the one that holds the key to your Dreams and your Destiny... Don't Let it Go!

Don't Let Anyone Dull Your Sparkle!
